How to create a WhatsApp link with a pre-filled message

A WhatsApp click-to-chat link opens a conversation without asking visitors to save your number first. Use the correct international number format, add an optional pre-filled message, and share the link on a website, profile, or QR code.

Create a WhatsApp link

Use the phone number in international format

A basic WhatsApp link follows the format https://wa.me/number. Enter the full international number using digits only: leave out the plus sign, the leading zero used in a local number, spaces, parentheses, and dashes.

For a Turkish number, the country code is 90. For example, enter 905551234567 for the local number 0555 123 45 67. For other countries, start with that country’s code. The number must have an active WhatsApp account.

Check the number before publishing. A typo can open a conversation with someone else.

Add an optional pre-filled message

A pre-filled message appears in the chat’s text field; it is not sent automatically. You could add a short opener such as “Hi, could you tell me more about this product?” The visitor can review and send it themselves.

If you write the URL manually, spaces and special characters need URL encoding. LentoCircle’s WhatsApp tool handles that conversion when it creates the link.

  1. 1

    Enter the phone number

Use the full international number. The tool removes spaces, parentheses, and a plus sign, and rejects a number that starts with zero.

  2. 2

Add a message if you want

Write a short opening message. Do not put personal or sensitive information in a pre-filled message.

  3. 3

    Create the link

Copy the WhatsApp link or download a QR code for the same destination.

Test the link before you publish it

  • Open it on another phone and make sure the right number appears.
  • If WhatsApp is not installed, try opening the link in WhatsApp Web.
  • Check that the pre-filled message is complete and easy to understand.
  • If you use a QR code, test it at its final print size and from the actual scanning distance.

Keep track of where people find the link

Using separate links for a website, social profile, and printed material can make it easier to compare link clicks in analytics. A click count alone does not prove that a chat started, a message was sent, or a sale was made.

LentoCircle creates the WhatsApp link and QR code in your browser. Your phone number and message are not sent to LentoCircle’s server.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include + or a leading zero in a WhatsApp link?

Is the pre-filled message sent when someone opens the link?

No. It appears in the chat’s text field. The visitor must send the message themselves.
